The Headshot Process-How Does It Work?

Of all the people coming in for headshots roughly 50% have never had a professional headshot taken. One of the most frequent questions is, "How does this work?"

The Process

First, simply call or book your session online. We make it as easy as possible for you to access the studio calendar and select the day and time of your choosing. All reservations are prepaid, this is what covers the time for photography at your session. You will have options of backgrounds and be allowed up to 3 wardrobe changes. The usual headshot session, will run about 30 minutes so whether you need a quick LinkedIn headshot or a longer multiple outfit session we have you covered.  (Ladies, we have an add-on service available, if you would like to have your make-up done from one of our professional make-up artists. just call (980) 251-7371 and we can arrange that for you!)

Headshot Prep

A few tips to prepare for your headshots: be well rested—if you’re tired it will show in the headshots, well hydrated helps as well. It will also help your skin look great in the headshot. That being said, moisturize your skin but avoid using oil. The lights will reflect strongly if you come in oily, and you will likely request the “shine” be toned down but you have complete control over that.

Also, please try on the clothes that you plan on wearing, PRIOR to coming in for your appointment. Buttons being stretched or sleeves that are too tight, are obviously not the photographers fault and again, and an extra fee applies if you request extra editing to fix these things, Make sure you have clean pressed clothes. Wrinkled clothes will make anyone look sloppy in a headshot. Bring a few outfit changes—even if you want just a quick headshot we suggest a few choices—at least ties (men) or a few blouses for women. Solid mid to darker toned colors work best. The focus needs to be on you not the wild patterned tie or dress you are wearing. We recommend 3/4 to full length sleeves. Even if your arms are super toned it’s too much skin—usually a lighter color—and a distraction in the final portrait.

At The Session

We will run through a variety of poses based on what you’re wearing as well as your profession as well as your desired outcome. Your expectation must be realistic. Our photographers use experience and posing to accentuate your best features and try to hide your less desired features. However, do not come in thinking that the camera won’t capture what is truly in front of the lens. We want you to be satisfied but that truly comes from having realistic expectations.

After your session

We will do a light retouch of the images which includes cropping, lightening/darkening and blemish removal. Extensive retouching is at an additional cost but we’ve found most to be pleased with the light retouch. Then we’ll pop the images into a gallery and send you a link to review them. You will get six images that are included with your Headshot session, and naturally If you would like to purchase additional images from your collection, you may.

Once you make your selections, we finish up any additional editing, and make your images available for download. (High Resolution)
